GfBS Workshop "Baumkonstruktion" - Outline/Requirements
TREE-PUZZLE GfBS-workshop-version available below (at the end of this page)
The outline of the morning workshop is as follows:
- 1)
-
Introductory lecture on tree-building and tree optimization methods.
A number of problems will be described that might occur during
phylogenetic analysis and how they are tried to be solved by different
programs.
- 2)
-
In a second part the program SplitsTree and the underlying theory
will be explained. Additionally common mistakes interpreting phylogenetic
networks will be discussed.
- 3a)
-
Practical exercise performing quality assessment on different provided
datasets using the TREE-PUZZLE software.
- 3b)
-
Exercise: Trees will be reconstructed and analyzed using the TREE-PUZZLE software
(and possibly other methods from the PHYLIP package).
- 4)
-
Exercise: Phylogenetic networks will be constructed using SplitsTree
from provided datasets and using TREE-PUZZLE.
Results from 3) and 4) will be briefly discussed.
The attendants are free to additionally use own datasets, advice
will be given as far as time allows.
Parts 2) and 3) might possibly be swapped.
